Winter can really suck the life out of skating. Especially in the Midwest after most of the country got a foot of snow. I caught wind that Casper Jones and crew were having an open session at the Life Bowl, I knew that’s just what I needed to rejuvenate my skating spirit. I packed my photo gear and a couple of homies for the two and a half hour trek through the snowy corn fields of Indiana to Muncie.
Casper welcomed us around a cozy fire just below a freshly cleaned and coke washed bowl. What a perfect shape, size and transition. I knew this was going to be a blast and some gnarly skating would be going down shortly.

My crew Jean Herbert and Sam Mullins got a little warm up time in while I was setting up. It didn’t take long for the bowl to be packed with shredders like Luke Nation, Apollo Peters, Gavin Svetlik, Cody Heil, and of course Casper. Watching the hometown heroes destroy the bowl was a pleasure. Luke’s style is so hard to capture in a still image. He’s building his special meter because every trick is actually three or four at the same time. Apollo’s flow through every corner just couldn’t be matched. Young vert ripper Gavin Svetlik laid down tons of heavy lines alongside Casper and Cody. New and old head skaters watched the lines of the veteran skaters in awe as they waited for their runs.

Here is another great community of skaters. Another example of how you can go anywhere and find an awesome crew to skate with. Even in this frigid cold, the fire roaring in the background and heat being brought in the bowl, I could feel the burn for skating again. While winter continued to suck the motivation out of everyone else, inside this Muncie warehouse, life was being restored to a group of skaters.
