The ReLaunch of Freedumb Airlines…

Veteran Pro, Dan Drehobl answers some Q and A about relaunching his brand, Freedumb Clothing.

What’s the history behind Freedumb?
I originally started Freedumb Clothing with the guys at Think Skateboards around 1995. the original team was Phil Shao, Tim Upson, Jim Greco, Ed Templeton, Brian Seber, Gordon Ekler, Jake Palu, and me. I ran the company until about 2000 and then shut it down when i started riding for Krooked. A little over a year ago I found myself without a clothing sponsor and I just decided to make some shirts and sell them online. I took $100 I had made from selling some old clothes and had some t-shirts made. I sold those shirts and made more then it just went from there.

What’s different now doing the brand vs during the old days?
It’s completely different now, I’m doing the whole thing by myself. I just run it all out of my garage. I guess I care about it more now. Also I have a new team of rippers. Right now the team is Jeff Grosso, Brandon Perelson, Marissa Dal Santo, Preston Harper, Kevin Kowalski, Andrew Currie, Maru, and me. These guys are all awesome skaters and i’m just having a lot fun doing it this time around.

Do you feel that there is a resurgence of small companies?
Yeah I’ve noticed that and I think it’s cool.

Why now?
It just sort of happened, after not really drawing much or creating for years I had a spark and I needed an outlet.
What inspires the graphics?
They just come out of my head, it’s all just a reaction to the world around me. Sometimes I feel like it clicks, usually it just ends up in the trash

Any funny stories related to the brand?
Tony Vitello got sent home from school for wearing one of the shirts. I’ve actually heard of that happening to a few other people as well. So kids, if you don’t want to go to school get a Freedumb Airlines shirt, it’s essential.
Would you consider yourself a patriot?
I don’t want to really get into politics but I do consider myself someone who believes in the United States that they teach you about in school. I just don’t believe that place actually exists.

How do you feel about patriot missiles?
I’m not really a fan of anything that is designed to kill people.

Final question what’s the future of Freedumb?
I’m just going to keep doing what I have been, I’m going to start working on putting out more promo videos but that’s about it.
